Lakshya Sen, alongside the men’s doubles pair of Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag, progressed to the quarterfinals of the China Masters, securing victories in their second-round clashes on Thursday. However, the women’s contingent experienced a disappointing end to their campaign with defeats in the Round of 16.
Lakshya Sen secured a victory against Rasmus Gemke of Denmark, triumphing 21-16, 21-15, earning his first quarter-final appearance in his 4th tournament since the Paris Olympics.
Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, participating in their first tournament since the Olympics, advanced to the quarterfinals by handily defeating the Danish pair Frederick Søgaard Rasmussen and Rasmus Kjær with a score of 21-19, 21-15.
In the women’s singles event, PV Sindhu, Anupama Upadhyaya, and Makvika Bansod all experienced early exits. In a thrilling match, Sindhu succumbed to a defeat against Yeo Jia Min from Singapore, with the final score being 16-21, 21-17, 21-23.
Anupama found herself outclassed by Natsuki Nidaira from Japan, losing the match 7-21, 14-21. Malvika Bansod couldn’t match up to Supanida Katethong from Thailand and suffered a 9-21, 9-21 defeat.
The Women’s doubles pair of Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand suffered a defeat in straight sets against the Chinese pairing of Liu Sheng Shu and Tan Ning, falling 16-21, 11-21. The Mixed Doubles duo of B. Sumeeth Reddy and N. Sikki Reddy gave walkover to their Chinese opponent as Sikki was diagnosed with food poisoning and had to withdraw.
