It was an impressive showing from the Indian shooters on the second day of the ongoing Paris Olympics at the National Shooting Center in Châteauroux on Sunday. Manu Bhaker led the way, clinching a bronze medal, while both Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta qualified for their respective finals.
Manu Bhaker made history by becoming the first Indian woman shooter to win an Olympic medal, securing a bronze medal in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event at the Paris Olympics. She finished in third place in the final with a score of 221.7, just 0.1 behind Kim Yeji of South Korea. Oh Ye-jin and Kim Yeji of South Korea claimed the gold and silver medals respectively. Manu had secured 3rd place in the qualification round on the first day of the Paris Olympics, with a score of 580 to qualify for the finals.
Ramita Jindal advanced to the final of the Women’s 10m Air Rifle event, following her 5th place finish in the qualification round with a score of 631.5 after 60 shots. Elavenil Valarivan missed out on qualifying for the final, finishing in 10th place with a score of 630.7. Valarivan was among the top 8 right from the initial phase but lost out due to her subpar performance in the last three shots.
Arjun Babuta qualified for the final in the Men’s 10m Air Rifle event after securing the 7th spot with a score of 630.1. Sandeep Singh ended up in 12th place with a score of 629.3. A slow start cost Singh.
Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta will vie for a medal on Monday.
