Manika Batra and Sreeja Akula started their Paris Olympics campaign with impressive victories at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles on Sunday.
Manika defeated Anna Hursey of Great Britain 4-1 (11-8 12-10 11-9 9-11 11-5). Sreeja Akula dominated Christina Kallberg of Sweden, winning 4-0 (11-4 11-9 11-7 11-8).
In the men’s singles event, both Achanta Sharath Kamal and Harmeet Desai were knocked out in the round of 64, falling short in their respective matches. Kamal lost 2-4 to Deni Kozul of Slovenia (12-10 9-11 6-11 7-11 11-8 10-12) while Desai was defeated by the 3rd seeded Felix Lebrun of France, 0-4 (8-11; 8-11; 6-11, 8-11).
