U20 Wrestling World Ch’ships: Indian Women Win 3 Medals on Day 4

Indian women wrestlers demonstrated an impressive performance at the U20 Wrestling World Championships, claiming a total of 3 medals, including a gold. Jyoti Berwal secured the gold medal in the event currently underway in Pontevedra, Spain. Two other grapplers also successfully secured bronze medals, making it a productive day for Indian wrestlers.

Jyoti Berwal emerged as the U20 world champion in the Women’s 76 kg category by defeating Ukraine’s Mariia Orlevych 5-0. This marks the second consecutive world U20 title for India in the Women’s 76 kg category, following Priya Malik’s victory in the 2023 edition.

Joining the ranks of medallists on Thursday, Komal secured a bronze medal in the 59 Kg category after defeating Elena Kurova through a fall in a 3-0 decision. Similarly, Srishti clinched a bronze medal in the 68 Kg category by comfortably winning her match against Viktoryia Radzkova of Ukraine with a score of 7-0.

Unfortunately, Muskan (50 Kg) suffered a defeat in a closely contested bronze medal bout against her Ukrainian opponent, Aida Kerymova by fall 2-6, leading to her missing out on securing a medal.

On Friday, India has the opportunity to secure additional medals in the women’s category, with a potential gold medal bout in the Women’s 62 Kg category. This bout is scheduled to feature Nitika, who defeated Nagisa Ito of Japan with a score of 7-3 in the semifinals. Nitika is set to face off against Ukraine’s Iryna Bondar in the final encounter.
