Greco-Roman wrestler Vishvajit More won a bronze medal on the day 3 of the U23 UWW World Wrestling Championships being held in Tirana, Albania on Wednesday. On the other hand, women’s wrestler Anjli has made it to the finals in her event.
Greco-Roman wrestler Vishvajit More secured the bronze medal in the 55kg category by defeating Adam Ulbashev with a score of 14-10. He was the only Indian Greco-Roman wrestler to earn a podium finish at the event, as Suraj Vashisht fell short in his bronze medal bout. Suraj, a former U17 World Champion, lost against Pridon Abuladze of Georgia with a score of 1-9. Prior to that, Suraj had defeated Suren Aghajanyan of Armenia in the repechage round by criteria 2-2.
In the women’s 59kg category, Anjli has advanced to the final match after winning all three of her bouts. Starting her campaign strongly, she won through technical superiority against Gular Habibova of Azerbaijan, gaining a 10-0 lead. In the quarterfinals, the 19-year-old wrestler defeated Hong Liang of China with a score of 9-5, followed by a 4-0 win against Aurora Russo of Italy in the semifinals. On Thursday, she will face Ukraine’s Solomiia Vynnyk in the final.
Bhumika Patel (55kg) and Monika (68kg) have a chance to secure the bronze medal via repechage to be held on Thursday. Both grapplers were previously eliminated in the round of 16, but since their opponents advanced to the respective finals, they have an opportunity to compete for the bronze medal.
