U23 Wrestling World Ch’ships: Indian Wrestlers Bag 2 Medals on Day 4

India’s women’s wrestling team secured 2 medals on the fourth day of the 2024 U23 UWW World Wrestling Championships currently  underway in Tirana, Albania on Friday. Anjli claimed silver in the 59kg category, while Monika bagged the bronze medal in the 68kg category.

Anjli settled for a silver medal in the women’s 59kg category, losing to Solomiia Vynnyk of Ukraine 4-7. Prior to the final match, Anjli had successfully won all three of her bouts on Wednesday. She has started with a dominant technical superiority win against Gular Habibova of Azerbaijan with a score of 10-0. In the quarterfinals, the 19-year-old wrestler had defeated Hong Liang of China with a score of 9-5, followed by a 4-0 victory against Aurora Russo of Italy in the semifinals.

Monika earned a bronze medal after winning all three bouts on Thursday. In repechage matches, she defeated Slovakia’s Zsuzsanna Molinar with a score of 3-1 and later won against Romania’s Maria Magdalena Pantiru with a score of 9-6 to progress to the bronze medal bout. The 20-year-old then secured the bronze medal by defeating China’s Xinze Du, clinching the match with a score of 5-3.

In the 55kg category, there was a disappointing result for Bhumika Patel. The 21-year-old wrestler defeated Aruuke Kadyrbek Kyzy of Kyrgyzstan in repechage by technical  superiority 10-0, but ultimately lost the bronze medal bout against Amani Emma Jones of the United States with a score of 2-5.

Neha Sharma (57kg) and Shiksha (65kg) will fight for the bronze medal on Friday. Both lost their respective semifinal matches after winning their initial rounds.
