PV Sindhu gives a thumbs up after reaching the Arctic Open 2026 quarterfinals

PV Sindhu has advanced to the quarterfinals of the Arctic Open 2026 after a convincing straight-game victory over Japan’s Riko Gunji. The sixth-seeded Indian shuttler defeated Gunji 21-15, 21-15 to book her place in the last eight of the tournament.

Sindhu’s victory keeps India’s hopes alive in the women’s singles draw. However, 18-year-old Tanvi Sharma and Tharun Mannepalli were eliminated from the tournament after their respective Round of 16 defeats.

PV Sindhu Cruises Into the Arctic Open Last Eight

Sixth seed PV Sindhu produced a composed performance against Japan’s Riko Gunji, winning in straight games, 21-15, 21-15.

Sindhu maintained control throughout the match. In fact, she closed out both games with authority to secure her place in the Arctic Open 2026 quarterfinals.

As a result, Sindhu’s campaign at the tournament continues as she looks to make a deep run and add another strong performance to her season.

Tanvi Sharma’s Run Comes to an End

Meanwhile, India’s 18-year-old Tanvi Sharma was unable to join Sindhu in the quarterfinals.

Tanvi faced a major challenge against top seed and former world champion Ratchanok Intanon of Thailand. The young Indian fought hard in the opening game but eventually went down 18-21, 7-21.

Despite the defeat, Tanvi’s progress into the Round of 16 is another positive step in her development on the international stage.

Tharun Mannepalli Knocked Out

Similarly, India’s Tharun Mannepalli also bowed out of the Arctic Open after a closely contested battle against second seed Christo Popov of France.

Popov secured a 21-14, 21-19 victory. Mannepalli pushed the French shuttler hard in the second game, but Popov eventually closed out the match.

PV Sindhu Leads India’s Arctic Open Challenge

With Tanvi Sharma and Tharun Mannepalli eliminated, PV Sindhu is now the remaining Indian in the singles draws at the Arctic Open 2026.
