Manu Bhaker advanced to the final in the Women’s 10m Air Pistol event, as the Shooting events of the 2024 Paris Olympics began at the National Shooting Center in Châteauroux on Saturday.
The 22-year-old finished 3rd out of 45 shooters in the qualifying round with a score of 580. Rhythm Sangwan ended up at the 15th spot with a score of 573 and was unable to progress. The final will take place tomorrow.
Earlier in the day, Sarabjot Singh and Arjun Singh Cheema missed out on qualifying for the men’s 10m air pistol final. It was a heartbreaking experience for Sarabjot as he came in 9th place, just one spot shy of the qualifying positions, missing out due to scoring fewer inner 10s. He wrapped up with a total of 577 points after 60 shots, tied with Germany’s Robin Walter but with 16 inner 10s, one less than the German competitor. Arjun Cheema was 18th with a score of 574.
India’s hopes for a medal in the 10m air rifle mixed team event also ended at the qualification stage. Ramita Jindal and Arjun Babuta combined for a score of 628.7, placing them in 6th place among 29 teams, while their fellow countrymates Elavenil Valarivan and Sandeep Singh secured 12th position with a total of 626.3. Only four pairs moved on to the medal rounds.
