Indian women grapplers demonstrated their skill and prowess on day 4 of the U17 World Wrestling Championships, claiming 4 medals including 3 gold thus far in the ongoing competition in Amman, Jordan. Additionally, 2 other Indian women wrestlers have advanced to the finals and will compete for the gold medal tomorrow.
Aditi Kumari claimed the first gold medal of the day for India, besting Maria Gkika of Greece in the final of the 43kg category by a score of 7-0. Neha (57kg) secured the second gold medal of the day with a dominating victory over Japan’s So Tsutsui in the gold medal match, via technical superiority (10-0).
Pulkit clinched the third gold medal for India in the 65kg category, prevailing over Daria Frolova (6-3) in her final match. Mansi Lather claimed the 4th gold medal for India on Thursday. She prevailed over Hanna Pirskaya 5-0 in the 73kg category final.
Shrutika Patil advanced to the final in the 46kg category after defeating Kazakhstan’s Medina Kuanyshbek 3-1 in the semifinals. Her progress to the finals began with a technical superiority win over Ukrainian Yevheniia Druzenko (10-0). Tomorrow, Shrutika will face Japan’s Yuu Katsume in the gold medal match.
Kajal advanced to the final in the 69kg category. She claimed a hard-fought 4-3 win over Egyptian athlete Rahma Magdy Hosafy Bediwy in the semifinals. Previously, Kajal secured technical superiority wins over Ukrainian wrestler Ulyana Lapanik (10-0) and then beat Japan’s Ako Uchiyama (5-0). Tomorrow, Kajal will face Oleksandra Rybak in the gold medal match.
Raj Bala (40kg) will compete for the bronze medal. She lost her semifinal match against Aleksandra Fedorova with a score of 3-4. Both Muskan (53kg) and Rajnita (61kg) suffered defeats in the quarterfinals but were granted repechage opportunities for the bronze as their opponents went on to reach the final.
These 4 medals bring India’s total medal haul in the competition to 6. Indian Greco Roman wrestlers have already won 2 bronze medals in the tournament.
