India’s talented young badminton players, Tanvi Sharma, Aalisha Naik, and Pranay Shettigar, have successfully advanced to the quarterfinals of the Badminton World Junior Championships 2024 held in Nanchang, China. The three of them are now just one victory away from guaranteeing a medal at the prestigious tournament.
15-years-old Tanvi Sharma defeated Niina Matsuta of Japan in straight sets, triumphing 21-18, 21-13. She will face the third-seeded Chinese player Xu Wen in the quarterfinals.
18-years-old Aalisha Naik advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating Malaysia’s Lim Zhi Shin 21-17, 21-17 clinching the match in 30 minutes. She will now face the Chinese player, Dai Qin Yi, in the quarterfinals.
In the Men’s singles category, Pranay Shettigar, the 6th seed, secured a victory over Thailand’s 10th seed Eakanath Kitkawinroj with a score of 21-14, 21-17 in the pre-quarterfinals. He will now face the 4th seed, Wang Zi Jun, from China in the quarterfinals.
In the mixed doubles, the Indian partnership of Bhargav Ram Arigela and Vennala Kalagotla lost to fourth-seeded Chinese duo of Li Hong Yi and Zhang Jia Han 13-21, 16-21 in the round of 16 clash.
